Strong Cities Network (SCN) Project Manager and Lead Researcher (in Jordan)

Launched at the United Nations in September 2015, the Strong Cities Network (SCN) is the first-ever global network of mayors, municipal-level policy makers and practitioners united in building social cohesion and community resilience to counter violent extremism in all its forms. Led by Institute for Strategic Dialogue and comprised of more than 120 cities, the SCN builds collaboration between Mayors, political actors and frontline teams to tackle polarisation, hate and violence in local communities in every major global region. Over the course of two years from October 2019 to October 2021, the project will aim to build the capacity of municipalities and local PVE networks in Jordan.
The West Asia - North Africa (WANA) Institute seeks a qualified, motivated and dynamic project manager to join the Human Security team to fill the position of SCN Project Manager and Lead Researcher. This position will be based in Amman, Jordan with constant travel to various governorates in the south, north and centre of the Kingdom. The candidate will start as soon as possible and will report to WANA’s Director of Programme with continuous liaising with SCN’s Senior Regional Programme Manager.
Responsibilities include:
• Close cooperation with the Ministry of Local Government, Mayors, SCN focal points and members of the Local Prevention Networks in the governorates and other stakeholders working on C/PVE in Jordan;
• Designing, implementing, reporting and documentation of project activities;
• Writing and editing internal, impact reports and donor reports;
• Ensuring that the project meets its targets and is implemented on time and budget and adheres to donor requirements;
• Supporting local capacity-building activities and training local prevention networks’ members, including holding training needs assessments and supporting the development of content for trainings;
• Designing and delivering project activities and managing stakeholders in Jordan, including national implementation, small grants management;
• Strategic planning and development of the project in Jordan;
• Providing support to the Senior Regional Programme Manager where required;

• Authoring and editing publications and play a primary role in research design and execution including the implementation of key informant interviews around Jordan.

• Devising content, methodology as well as write and edit reports, op-eds, briefs and speeches.
About the Applicant
• Candidate should have a strong knowledge of security, political and socio-economic issues in the WANA region.
• Motivated, academically-qualified professional with management and research experience and has a genuine interest in the WANA region.
• Master degree or PhD in political science, security studies, sociology, international relations or related fields.
• Completely fluent in both English and Arabic (reading and writing).
• Outstanding communicator and team player.
• Is familiar with the municipality policy sector, and can produce concise policy recommendations.
