On Monday 12 to Tuesday 13 October 2015, the WANA Institute, in collaboration with the German Development Agency (GIZ) and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), will hold a conference on the newly announced Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and their impact on water and natural resources management in the region. The meeting will gather policy-makers, scholars, environmental practitioners, and civil society organizations and shall be held at the King Hussein Club, Amman. The objective is to encourage interdisciplinary discussion and to brainstorm modalities for enhancing sustainable development cooperation in the context of regional challenges, including water insecurity, climate change and arid lands management. The event will feature several high level guest speakers from the region and international organisations directly involved in the SDG process, as well as a keynote address by His Royal Highness, Prince El Hassan bin Talal.

The second day of the event will comprise a high level meeting on water resources management and religion. The aim is to examine modalities for engaging religious leaders in natural resources management and water conservation. The day will feature expert speakers on Islamic models for sustainable development and a facilitated exchange of experiences between different stakeholders within the water and religious communities.
