QUA: Empowering Women to Prevent Violent Extremism in Jordan Under the 1325
Background
As the year 2020 marks the 20th anniversary of the UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security, and two years since the launch of the Jordanian National Action Plan (JONAP) to advance the implementation of the resolution in Jordan, the West Asia-North Africa Institute (WANA) in partnership with the International Institute for Nonviolent Act (NOVACT) in Barcelona, Spain, focuses on promoting a culture of peace and non-violence in Jordan through the project “QUA: Empowering Women to Prevent Violent Extremism in Jordan Under the 1325”.

Project Objectives
- Reinforcing knowledge about public policies in the area of violent extremism, especially among actors working in key sectors in the areas of (civil society, local public actors, religious people, social people, youth and sports, culture, education, interior, communication media, women’s rights, justice, human rights and transitional justice).
- Strengthening the capacity and participation of women in the prevention of violent extremism and in peacebuilding processes in order for them to lead in their communities.
Methodology
The WANA Institute conducts a comparative policy study between Barcelona, Spain and Jordan, in order to:
- Identify good international practices and public policies pertaining to the Agenda for Women, Peace and Security and the Prevention of Violent Extremism.
- Investigate possible adaptations of these good practices to the Jordanian reality; in accordance with a legal and competence framework.
