IDRC Regional Workshop on Food Systems Transformationin Nairobi, Kenya

January 27-29, 2026. Eng. Salsabeal Abo-Thrais represented West Asia-North Africa (WANA) Institute at the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) | CRDI Regional Workshop on Food Systems Transformationin Nairobi, Kenya, joining as a panellist to discuss the key challenges facing food systems in the Middle East and what must change to enable real transformation.

She highlighted persistent pressures across the region, including limited resources, fragile markets, and the ongoing impacts of conflicts and crises. The workshop brought together researchers, civil society, and policymakers committed to advancing resilient and inclusive food systems, with discussions focused on elevating farmers’ voices in #Agroecology across #Africa and the #MiddleEast, and translating evidence into policy and practice.

These exchanges reinforced the importance of grounding food systems transformation in lived realities, farmer-led knowledge, and inclusive decision-making—helping shape research priorities for a more resilient, equitable, and sustainable food future.
