Tourism is one of the most important economic sectors in Jordan, contributing 13% to the GDP in 2019, with total revenues amounting to 4.1 billion Jordanian dinars. The tourism sector also contributes to the economic development of local communities by providing job opportunities for the sons and daughters of the governorate, both directly and indirectly, through offering traditional foods and participating in tourism events such as bazaars. Official figures reflect a weakness in women's involvement in the tourism sector over the past ten years, with participation rates ranging between 9% and 13%. This paper focuses on the participation of women in the tourism sector in Al Karak Governorate and highlights the empowering opportunities that women's work in this sector provides, which include participation in economic life and the preservation and support of local heritage.
