In this booklet, members of the Arab Network for Pastoral Societies testify about the value of traditional pastoralist knowledge for the WANA region. Their primary goal is to revive, document and develop this knowledge in order to support the development of Bedouin pastoral groups in the Arab region. The Network wants to build the Bedouins’ capacities for effective participation in the rehabilitation and improvement of the sustainable participatory management of rangelands. This goal can be achieved through mainstreaming and networking with civil society organisations, researchers, experts, decision makers and other stakeholders and networks.

This publication is supported by the European Union, GIZ funds on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).

The publication has been launched in cooperation with the IUCN Regional office of West Asia, the WANA Institute, and the Arab Network for Pastoral Societies at the Second Hima Forum, which was held in Amman in cooperation with GIZ, SDC, OXFAM, GEF, EU and UNEP in October 2016.
