On June 2nd three Research Fellows from the WANA Institute visited the International Community School (ICS) in Amman during their annual Green Week. Kim Wilkinson from the Human Security team, and Laylla Rkiouak and Heather Elaydi from the Green Economy team, ran an interactive workshop for students in years 7-9 on carbon footprints and water footprints. WANA Fellows had a chance to discuss their respective areas of research, describe what it’s like to work at a regional think tank, and to explain the carbon and water footprint concepts and how they’re used. ICS students were highly engaged in the activities and discussions, with a number of thoughtful comments made and questions asked. The information shared on carbon and water made a big impression on the students, who learned that spending time on their smartphones has a huge carbon footprint and that beef and other red meats have some of the highest water footprints of any foods.
