Overview
The WANA Institute researchers completed and analysed 600 questionnaires from the governorates of Irbid, Karak, and the capital, Amman, reflecting the respective demographic diversity of the north, south, and centre regions of the country and produced the Jordan Needs Assessment Assistance Report.

The Aim
The report aimed:
- to assess the state of social cohesion, analyse the drivers of conflict, and determine at what point a community becomes at risk of conflict in Jordan
- to capture an informed understanding of conflict dynamics in Jordan to enhance programmers’ and policy-makers’ ability to design interventions that resolve conflict and strengthen stability and resilience,
- to offers quantitative insights into the various socio-economic challenges that threaten local stability and social cohesion in the country,
- to illuminate the common grievances and drivers of conflict in Jordan and to shed light on the tensions between different segments of the population, and
- to look at levels of trust between the state, citizens, civil society, and the private sector.
Structure
The 30+ questions addressed a range of human security issues. They fall under six categories:
- Citizens Knowing Their Rights (Qs. 1-5);
- Citizen Trust in the Government (Qs. 6,7);
- Group Relations (Qs. 8,9);
- The Role of the Citizen (Qs. 10-15);
- Livelihoods (Qs. 16-26);
- Jordan’s Economic Prospects (Qs. 27-29).
Broadly, these categories fall under two main themes: A. Citizen Relationship to the Government (Categories 1-3), and B. Common Grievances and Drivers of Conflict (Categories 4-6). These two themes structure the report, focusing on the Jordanian national context and breaking it down by governorate where illustrative of more local trends.
