The Strong Cities Network in Lebanon and Jordan: building local P/CVE capacity in the Middle East through community prevention networks.

Project Brief

The overall goal of this two-year Strong Cities Network (SCN) programme is to ensure Strengthened P/CVE activities coordination and delivery in selected municipalities in Lebanon and Jordan. The WANA Institute will build the capacity of municipalities and local PVE networks (PNs) in Jordan, building on the work that the SCN has been delivering in Jordan since 2016, and has been designed to support national policy development on P/CVE through building of local infrastructure to support implementation. A similar programme of work will also be delivered in Lebanon concurrently.

Overview

The expected outcomes and outputs, of developing local prevention networks that build social cohesion and resilience to create stronger and safer communities able to prevent violent extremism, are:

Increased ability of the Community Prevention Networks (PNs) in select municipalities to meaningfully engage with local, national and international policy-makers and peers to support the implementation of the national P/CVE strategies.
A.1 Increased access of select national and municipal P/CVE stakeholders (male and female) to best practices and knowledge about the Dutch experience in setting up national and local infrastructures for the implementation of the P/CVE strategy.

A.2 Engagement of Lebanese and Jordanian national policy makers and mayors with their international peers in global policy dialogue about P/CVE strengthened.

Enhanced quality of P/CVE activities by PNs targeting vulnerable youth, teachers, youth workers and religious leaders in select municipalities in Jordan and Lebanon.
B.1 Capacity building provided to select PNs in Jordan and Lebanon on Training of the Trainer model (ToT) and on effective P/CVE approaches.

B.2 Financial and technical Support provided to PN members from selected municipalities in Jordan and Lebanon to design and implement P/CVE activities that are in line with the national and local P/CVE priorities.
