The WANA Institute is staffed by a dedicated team of researchers, programme coordinators and support staff based in the offices of the Royal Scientific Society.
The WANA Institute is committed to hiring promising young people from within the region in order to develop the next generation of socially conscious thought leaders.
Each team member has their own field of expertise – from law and conflict studies through to economics and environmental science – and brings with them experience in different sectors and countries.
Dr Al Naber is a specialist in sustainability and integrated natural resources management and policies in the Arid region. She manages several projects addressing the environmental security in the WANA region. She takes a multidisciplinary approach that encompasses the fields of climate change, food and water securities, environmental displacement and migration, social inclusions, vulnerability and gender. She has an extended experience in the sustainability of agriculture system under scarce conditions of drought, salinity and water scarcity.
Dr Yara heads the WANA office with experience in developing projects in Human Security and Social Justice. She provides training and consultation in topics related to preventing violent extremism, education, social protection, and policy research and writing. She has a PhD in STEM Education from Tufts University and a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from University of Jordan.
Esraa has more than 11 years of experience working on programs addressing women’s empowerment, advocacy, awareness campaigning and political participation. She is specialist in issues related to human trafficking and vulnerable communities, including women and children in conflict zones. She has published several manuals, policy papers, and articles that discuss women’s rights and education in Jordan.
Eng. Abo-Thrais is a water and environment engineer, with extensive professional expertise in various areas, including Climate Change Adaptation & Mitigation; Sustainable Climate Smart Agriculture; Nature-Based Solutions; Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystem (WEFE) nexus, science-policy analysis, and advanced natural resources management with applied research experience for development and humanitarian interventions. She holds a master’s degree in water and environment resources management.
Eng. Samer is a researcher in the Sustainable Development pillar. He has experience in evidence-based research and technical projects covering topics related to climate change mitigation and adaptation and human security which encompasses water, food and energy securities and their nexus. He has previous experience working on projects focusing on the nexus between climate change, human security, gender. Samer holds a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering.
Salma is a researcher in the Human Security and Social Justice division. She has previous experience working on projects focusing on conflict, political participation, stakeholder interaction, and women’s empowerment, where she takes an intersectional approach to ensure a nuanced and comprehensive understanding of key issues and proposed solutions. Salma holds a master’s degree in Political Science, specialising in Nationalism, Ethnic Conflict, and Development, and a bachelor’s degree in International Relations, both awarded by Leiden University.
Eng. Muhanad Abu Othman is an intern researcher in the sustainable development pillar at the WANA Institute. Muhanad holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the Hashemite University, and is currently enrolled in “Humanitarian Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH)” master’s programme at the German Jordanian University focusing on project cycle management, technical essentials regarding water and sanitation, budgeting and behaviour change in (WASH) Practices.
Bayan works as an administrative assistant at the institute, holding a Bachelor's degree in Computer Information Systems from the Jordan University of Science and Technology. With extensive experience and diverse skills, Bayan excels in providing comprehensive support to various departments within organizations and companies. She previously worked as a project assistant and field officer, demonstrating proficiency in office management and administrative operations.
Fawaz serves the WANA Institute as the Logistics Assistant and Driver.
