"Knowledge from the region, for the region"

His Royal Highness Prince El Hassan bin Talal promotes the Sustainable Development (SD) pillar as one that supports social equity and opportunity, while significantly reducing ecological risk and improving natural resource management. The SD pillar strives to provide analysis and policy support for environmental governance, natural resource management and a green economy.

  • Environmental governance: advocating for ecological and environmental policy that supports sustainability in managing all human activities—political, social and economic.
  • Natural resource management: supporting the sustainable management of natural resources such as land and water, with a particular focus on how management affects the quality of life for both present and future generations.
  • Green economy: motivating policymakers to support low carbon, resource efficient and socially inclusive environmental ventures as a way of achieving sustainable development.

The WANA Institute is committed to help advance durable development by increasing awareness of the fact that people in the region depend on the use of natural resources for their sources of income. Ensuring human dignity by providing economic opportunities and secure livelihoods — particularly for poorer and rural populations — depends on the preservation of the region’s resource bases in the long term.
