Senior researcher Dr Neven Bondokji spoke about political Islam in Jordan, providing an academic perspective on its current and future status, at a regional conference organised by the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) on May 23.
She noted that "the future of political Islam in Jordan depends on the extent to which the government allows for political participation. If we expect political Islam movements to separate politics from their social preaching heritage, then the political structure should ensure that these movements have the chance to keep their wide social base through the ballot box after they do so."
