The resource-poor and transition countries of the WANA region are highly dependent on social development assistance and other forms of humanitarian aid. Such assistance is principally delivered through government agencies, religious charities and civil society organisations. This, combined with the absence of sustainable and indigenous mechanisms to facilitate development, limit the WANA region’s capacity to lift itself out of poverty, build resilience and reverse development traps.
Two-day regional conference for civil society practitioners, religious charities, religious leaders, Islamic bankers and policy-makers is aimed at galvanising support and reaching consensus on the utility and validity of a regional Zakat mechanism. The conference will consider sustainable and effective, evidence-driven mechanisms to support community development, poverty reduction and equitable resource sharing.
Full details for this conference will be released soon.
