Delivery of a Training on Climate, Peace and Security

On 1 April, Dr Majd Al Naber and Eng. Salsabeal Abo-Thrais delivered a training on Climate, Peace and Security as part of the 16th United Nations Staff Officers Course, held at the Peace Operations Training Centre (Military Training Directorate, Jordanian Armed Forces). The training reflects an ongoing collaboration between the WANA Institute and the Peace Operations Training Centre, through which the Institute continues to contribute its expertise to the professional development of officers preparing for international peacekeeping deployments.

The session introduced participants to the concept of climate change and its interlinkages with peace and security, and examined how environmental stresses - such as floods, heat waves, and and extreme weather events - can act as drivers of instability and conflict. It further explored the role peacekeeping forces can play in advancing climate adaptation and mitigation measures that strengthen community resilience and support long-term stability in fragile settings.
