On 19 October 2017, the West Asia – North Africa Institute (WANA) and Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) are hosting a high-level panel discussion about Jordan’s efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. The panellists will discuss the next steps forward after Jordan presented its Voluntary National Review at the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development at the United Nations in New York. They will also look at how Jordan’s decentralisation can help with implementing the SDGs on a local level.
The event will be held under the patronage of HRH Prince El Hassan bin Talal, represented by Dr Jawad Anani, former Deputy Prime Minister. The panel will consist of HE Eng. Ziad Obeidat, Acting Secretary General of Planning and International Cooperation; MP HE Wafaa Bani Mustafa, Representative of the Jordanian Parliament; HE Ms Costanza Farina, UNESCO Representative to Jordan (Chair of the UNCT SDG focus group); and Ms Hala Kilani, representing the Climate Action Network (CAN). The panel was moderated by HE Mrs Haifa Al Najjar, Senator at the Jordanian Senate House - The Upper House of Jordanian Parliament.
