Human Security researcher Barik Mhadeen was nominated by UNFPA Jordan to attend the 2018 United Nations Economic and Social Council Youth Forum at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on 30 and 31 January. The theme will be the role of youth in building sustainable and resilient societies. The event is jointly organised by the Department of Economic and Social Affairs and the Office of the Secretary General’s Envoy on Youth, in collaboration with the united Nations Inter-Agency Network on Youth Development, in particular its Working Group on Youth and SDGs.
The 2018 Youth Forum will provide a platform for young leaders from around the world to engage in dialogue among themselves and with Member States. They will share ideas for advancing the youth development agenda at national, regional and global levels with a view to promoting solutions to the global challenge of strengthening resilience and attaining sustainability.
Young people from the entire membership of the General Assembly, including youth delegates, Ministers of Youth, young Parliamentarians and other youth leaders will help the Council reinforce the message that global solutions, such as the 2030 Agenda, can help to create an inclusive, sustainable and prosperous future for all.
The Forum’s outcome will contribute to the High-level Political Forum in July 2018 on “Transformation towards sustainable and resilient societies” and the Council’s High-level Segment on “From global to local: supporting sustainable and resilient societies in urban and rural communities.”
Barik will also be featured as a speaker during the High-level Side Event on 'Youth, Violence and Peacebuilding - Quantitative Evidence and Future Directions' on 31 January, co-hosted by Denmark and UNDP.
