Women for Sustainable Future Meeting in Cairo

Dr Majd Al Naber represented the West Asia-North Africa (WANA) Institute at the Women for a Sustainable Future (WSF) Network meetings in Cairo, joining parliamentarians, diplomats, academics, and civil society representatives from across the region to discuss policy responses to gender-based violence, strengthening social cohesion, protecting women and vulnerable communities, and the impact of the Palestine-Israel conflict on education.

Discussions examined women’s leadership in peacebuilding, survivor-centred approaches to addressing gender-based violence, including the experiences of Sudanese women affected by conflict, as well as the challenges facing displaced Gazan educators and students. Participants also explored opportunities to strengthen international support for education in conflict-affected settings and exchanged practical policy recommendations to strengthen protection, inclusion, and resilience in conflict-affected contexts.

The meetings reinforced the importance of cross-regional dialogue and evidence-based policymaking in advancing women’s rights, strengthening social cohesion, and supporting more resilient communities across West Asia and North Africa.
