Towards Inclusive Participation of Vulnerable Women and People with Disabilities in Social and Economic Life
Overview
The West Asia - North Africa Institute (WANA), in partnership with IM Swedish Development Partner, has been implementing “Towards Inclusive Participation of Vulnerable Women and People with Disabilities in Social and Economic Life” since 2019.
This five-year programme aims to increase the skills of young people to advocate about the issues facing young women and persons with disabilities (PwD) in Jordan and actively contribute to policy-making. The programme seeks to impart essential research skills and tools to 20 male and female trainees to enable them to advocate for issues of interest to marginalised women and PwDs. It culminates with the trainees drafting policy papers pertaining to social and economic issues facing these populations.
Selection Criteria
Place of residence: The governorates of Mafraq and Irbid (2021), Jerash and Ajloun (2022), Karak (2023)
Age: 18-30
Required Experience:
- Basic skills in scientific research.
- 2-4 years of experience in community and volunteer work.
- Interest in issues related to the inclusion of PwDs and marginalised women.
- The ability and interest in drafting policy papers related to marginalised women and PwDs.
- Familiar with social media networks.

At the end of the year, the participants should be able to:
- Conduct evidence-based research and write policy papers.
- Gain skills and tools to support marginalised women and people with disabilities.
- Review national reports, international agreements, treaties related to the subject.
- Network and attract the public to gain support on pressing issues.
- Write and present policy papers to decision makers and the media.
- Train and educate their peers in their local communities.
Implementation
- Issue an application for participants to complete.
- Conduct interviews and select 20 trainees.
- Design and deliver the training workshops: research skills, both quantitative and qualitative, participatory action research, identification of issues and needs, collecting and analysing data from primary and secondary sources, and developing evidence-based strategies. Facilitation, presentation and communication skills. Analysis of policies and alternatives. Writing policy papers.
- Divide the participants into 4 groups, each group selects a topic.
- Participants conduct in-depth interviews and focus group discussions.
- Participants conduct data analysis.
- Participants draft their policy papers.
- Paper compiled, reviewed and edited.
- Hold a roundtable discussion with decision makers and stakeholders to present and discuss results.
