Regional Approaches To Regional Challenges: WANA Institute and Al Marji’ Publications announce strategic partnership

Amman - 10 January, 2015: The West Asia - North Africa (WANA) Institute, a non-profit policy think tank established and chaired by Prince El Hassan bin Talal, partners with Al Marji’ Publications to promote evidence-based policy and programming to combat the development and humanitarian challenges facing the region.

The signing ceremony, which took place at the offices of the WANA Institute at Majlis El Hassan, Royal Palaces, marks the start of a long-term initiative to foster dialogue and cooperation around issues of social justice, green economy and human security.

“We are facing devastating humanitarian disasters in our region, but our policy approaches are often reactive rather than preventative. The WANA Institute is committed to producing cutting-edge research that can foster a transition to evidence-based policymaking and start to change the cycle for the region,” Dr Erica Harper, Executive Director of the WANA Institute, says. “Working with Al Marji’ Publications is an important step in ensuring our research and findings are disseminated to the broader public and starting an important re-think of how we tackle our shared problems.”

“The launch of the WANA Institute comes at a crucial time when there is dire need, and thus ample opportunity, for home-grown research to support positive change,” stresses Hind-Lara Mango, Publisher & Managing Director of Al Marji’ Publications. “We are committed to regional thinking and cooperation that advocate social justice, the empowerment of women and greener economies in our part of the world and cultivate greater understanding globally.”

According to the agreement, Al Marji’ Publications’ parenting magazines, Family Flavours and Nakahat ‘Ailiyeh, will publish contributions from fellows and scholars of the WANA Institute and co-organise roundtable discussions involving civil society, government and private sector actors.
