WANA Institute co-hosts expert roundtable on sustainable energy, refugees and national resilience

On April 19-20, the WANA Institute, together with Chatham House and with kind support from the Dutch Ministry for Foreign Affairs, organised a high-level expert roundtable on sustainable energy, refugees and national resilience. It brought together a wide range of experts and stakeholders from NGOs, UN agencies, Jordanian government, private sector and key donors. The discussions were frank and constructive, with a number of suggestions being put forward for considerations.

The roundtable assessed Jordan’s experience in managing the additional pressures on its energy system resulting from the Syrian crisis. It also mapped future areas of productive international-local cooperation which can both improve refugee welfare and serve Jordan’s long term energy transformation goals. The rationale was to create a platform where ideas and energy efficient projects can be transformed into meaningful action for both refugees and Jordanian nationals. The meeting was held under Chatham House rule, and produced key policy recommendations to move forward on sustainable energy and building resilience in Jordan
