On August 15-18, senior research fellow and deputy director Adel Elsayed Sparr participated in a capacity-building workshop on structured scenario planning in Berlin. It was organised by the German Council for Foreign Relations (DGAP) in partnership with the Swedish Institute in Alexandria, the Swedish Institute in Istanbul, and the Robert Bosch Foundation. The workshop aimed to equip participants with foresight tools and a methodology to craft coherent and logically consistent scenarios.
For the purposes of learning the methodology, the workshop used two case studies: Egypt and Turkey in 2025. Subsequently, the workshop gathered young mid-career professionals from the WANA region and Europe, to create valuable intellectual exchanges and promote knowledge networks between the regions. Based on scenario planning, participants learned how to discern durable policy recommendations to promote today’s policy action for which the future will thank them. The WANA Institute is thankful to the organisers for the opportunity to learn and will implement this type of methodology in its future policy briefs and recommendations.
